Serial Wombat Connectivity

One of the questions I get a lot about the Serial Wombat is "Why did you do serial when many computers only have USB ports?"

Lots of thought went into this decision. In the end, serial won out. A serial connection can be used with lots of external adapters for IRDA, Ethernet, Bluetooth, USB, RS-232, RS-485, and a few other more obscure protocols. The Wombat is designed to be as versatile as possible.

This page will show various communication methods available to the Wombat, beyond the RS-232 in the getting started page.

Serial Wombat over Ethernet. Lantronix makes a product called the XPort which allows serial devices to be controlled through a Telnet connection. Hooking one of these up was a snap. Check out my quick review of the XPort.
